So That Sucked

Sorry for the radio silence of late, but as alluded to last time I got my shit together enough to blog, it’s been a hell of a month.

It started with the uncomparable awesomeness of wrecking my car. In the torrential rain. By myself. In the middle of nowhere, about five hundred miles away from home. I walked away from it with nothing more than a bit of seatbelt burn and a sore neck, but it was pretty high on the trauma scale. To get home, I had to rent a car, and the only thing available was a gigantic extended-cab pickup truck, which I promptly scraped the side of while trying to make a tight turn out of a gas station.

Since then, I had my best friend give birth, sold a new book (coming Spring 2013! More details coming soon!), and nursed hubby through the flu from hell.

And the biggest news of all is … my husband got a new job. In upstate New York. Did I mention that we currently live in North Carolina?

So we’re moving. It’s a corporate move, thank goodness, so we don’t have to do the worst of the backbreaking work, but cleaning our house out, getting it on the market, looking for a new place to live, and dealing with a very serious case of separation anxiety has left me discombobulated and drained.

With all that going on, a lot of things that I enjoy the most like tweeting and blogging and writing have taken a backseat. I’ve still managed to get a little of each done; honestly, I think I’d have lost it without my virtual friends to keep me company while I was waiting for a tow truck. And I definitely would have lost my mind if I hadn’t had my writing to retreat into when the stress got too high. It took discipline to make myself sit down every night after the packing and cleaning were done and open up a doc, but it’s been a life-saver in more ways than one.

Hopefully life will even out soon and things will get a little bit closer to normal. In the meantime, I’ll be keeping at it.

Thanks for all the kind words and support.

  1. So sorry to hear that you’re having such a crappy month, Jeanette. Have missed seeing you! Double sorry that you’re moving. Which part of upstate NY? I’m from the Hudson Valley / Poughkeepsie area, though I have relatives from all over the state.

    • We’ll be heading to the Albany area, which is only a couple hours from where I grew up, interestingly enough. Spent the first eighteen years of my life trying to get away, and here we are going back. Funny the twists life takes you on, huh?

I’ve missed seeing you, too. I should be at the July CRW meeting, and I’m hoping to still make it to Moonlight & Magnolias this year. If I don’t see you, there’s always Nationals someday!

  2. Yikes! That is a lot to deal with, especially in such a short period of time. But that’s why online friends are so awesome; we are always here. 🙂

    Congrats on the book!

    • Thanks so much. It’s been a rough time, but I guess that’s how life goes. It was smooth sailing for a couple years and then BANG! Let’s see how much life can dish out all at once.

Online friends are absolutely the best. Thanks for being one of them. <3

  3. Im so sorry that you were in a terrible accident but thank goodness you’re okay. I can’t imagine making a big move like that but I’m sure it’s going to be a good thing 🙂 The wonderful part of all of this is you sold ANOTHER BOOK! That is so awesome! Congratulations!

    • Thanks so much. The new book is definitely exciting, and I got the confirmation on it the day I wrecked my car. Seriously saved me from completely losing it.

We seem to move every five years. It’s exhausting, but with my husband’s work, it’s kind of how it goes.
